Alfred Larrison Smith, Jr., affectionately known as “Tuffy,” peacefully passed away on June 24, 2026, at Winchester Medical Center. He was 61 years old.

Alfred leaves to cherish his memory his loving daughter, Caraya Roberts of Germantown, Maryland; his beloved grandson, Maurice “MJ” Howe; his sisters, Laurie Anne Green of Harrisonburg, Virginia, Diane Turner of South Riding, Virginia, and Joyce Green of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; his niece, Shanta Green of Harrisonburg, Virginia; along with many extended family members, dear friends, church family, and all whose lives were blessed by knowing him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Larrison Smith, Sr. and Gladys Green Smith, and his brother, John Bradley.

Born and raised in Winchester, Virginia, Alfred was known for his quiet spirit, kind heart, and gentle demeanor. Though soft-spoken, he left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He was admired for his humility, unwavering work ethic, and willingness to lend a helping hand whenever it was needed.

Alfred attended Winchester City Public Schools and graduated from Handley High School. During his school years, he was well known for his athletic abilities, excelling in both basketball and football.

At an early age, Alfred accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Winchester, Virginia. There, he faithfully served on the Men’s Ministry and sang with the Male Chorus. In 2025, he united with Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Winchester, Virginia, where he continued his service as a member of the Usher Board and participated in the Men’s Day Choir, enjoying fellowship and worship alongside his brothers in Christ.

Alfred dedicated more than 30 years of his life as a professional CDL driver. During the last ten years of his career, he was a valued employee of Forgale Lumber, where he was respected for his dedication, dependability, and strong work ethic.

Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we find comfort in knowing that Alfred’s legacy of faith, kindness, quiet strength, and love will continue to live on through those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm., Wednesday July 1, 2026, at Cartwright Funeral Home in Winchester, VA.

The family has chosen to hold a memorial service at a later date. Details will be shared once they become available.
