Annie Lavinia Shields, of Winchester, Virginia, peacefully entered into eternal rest on July 23, 2014 while surrounded by family. Annie was born to the late John E. Shields, Jr. and Mattie Robinson Shields on July 29, 1939. Annie was the second of nine children. Annie attended Stephen City Elementary School and graduated from Frederick Douglas High School in Winchester. She was a member of John Mann United Methodist Church in Winchester and was a member of the United Methodist Women. Annie enjoyed cooking, reading and like all of Mattie's children she loved celebrating Thanksgiving and Christmas with family.
Annie L. Shields leaves to treasure her memories, her brothers, John, III, Robert (Barbara), Joseph, Ronald and Kermit (Delores) Shields; her sister, Linda Carter; a very close cousin, Mary Carter; loving step-father, Webster Washington; one aunt, Charlotte Andrews; two godsons, Dennis Burks and Vincent Finley; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sisters, Shirley Shields Snowden and Osceola Shields Newkirk; and a special niece, Kourtney Shields Hale.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 527 Van Fossen Street, Winchester, VA from 10 a.m. until funeral service at 11 a.m.
Interment will be in Locust Grove Cemetery in Stephens City ,VA.
