Barbara Clarissa Henderson
Barbara Clarissa Jackson Herbert Henderson, 86, passed away at her home in Sacramento, California on October 29, 2024. She was born in White Post, Virginia on February 25, 1938, to the late Rev. Thomas C. and Josephine P. Jackson.
Barbara graduated Valedictorian in 1956 from Johnson-Williams High School in Berryville, VA. She received the Good Citizen Award, presented by the Daughters of the American Revolution, in that same year. After graduating, she served Johnson-Williams High School as secretary to the late Principal Leon D. Harding during the school terms 1957-1959. Barbara retired from the U.S. Government following 23 years of loyal service. Her hobbies included genealogy, gardening, and welcoming all with her radiant smile.
Barbara, affectionately known as Ollie to those she grew up with, is survived by her beloved second husband of 50 years, Felix E. Henderson Jr. of Los Angeles, California. Her first marriage was to the late Eugene Alfonsa Herbert of Millwood, VA. They had four children which she leaves behind to cherish her memory: Eugene B. Herbert of Puyallup, Washington; Eric P. Herbert of Denver, Colorado; Everett A. Herbert, of the planet Mars, and E. Mary Herbert of San Leandro, California; along with eleven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind one sister, Susie Day of White Post, VA, one brother, Lloyd Jackson of Washington D.C., and a loyal canine, Lucy.
She was preceded in death by siblings Viola Jackson, Lucille Johnson, Marie Jackson, Thomas H. Jackson, Elwood Carter Jackson, Oswald Jackson, Tacoma Payne, Otas J. Hubbard, and Irma Carey.
A Celebration of Life Service will be on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 12:00 pm. with Pastor Raymond H. Morton, Jr., of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, officiating at the Cartwright Funeral Home, Winchester, Va.
Visitation will be one hour before service at the funeral home.
Interment will be at the Ebenezer Cemetery, White Post, VA.
In lieu of flowers please consider planting a tree.
