Calvin F. Gant, Sr.

Calvin F. Gant, Sr., 95, of Canton, Ohio, Formerly of Middletown, Virginia died Monday September 24, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center in Canton, Ohio.

Mr. Gant was born April 19, 1912 in Stephenson, Virginia the son of the late James Gant and Ida Mae Johnson Gant. He was a Member of the King Hiram Masonic Lodge # 53 in Winchester, Virginia and a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church and the Men's Club in Canton, Ohio.

He was married to Gladys R. Gant who preceded him in death.

He leaves to cherish his memory with three daughters; Josephine (Melvin) Allen, Sr. of Stone Mountain, Georgia, Dorothy Stevenson of Massillon, Ohio, and Bernice (Edward) Taylor, Jr. of Canton, Ohio; one son; Calvin (Dawn) F. Gant, Jr. of Middletown, Virginia; One brother –in-law, Joseph Downs of Philadelphia, PA; three sister-in-laws, Estella Fletcher of Oxen Hill. MD., Mattie Baker of Philadelphia, PA., and Mary Gant of Dayton, Ohio; and a host of nieces , nephews and friends; ten grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Four brothers and four sisters preceded him in death.

A Celebration of Life Service will be 1:00 p.m. on Saturday September 29, 2007 at St. Paul A.M.E. Church 1800 East Tuscarawas St., Canton, Ohio with the Rev. Robert Dye officiating. Family will receive friends one hour before service at the church.

Graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday October 1st 2007 in Orrick Cemetery in Winchester, Virginia with the Pastor Chris Straley.
