Clark Ray Ratcliffe

Clark R. Ratcliffe, 76, of Winchester, Virginia, died early on November 24, 2007 at his home, surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren after a long battle with heart and kidney disease.

He was born in Wheelwright, Kentucky, the son of a coal miner, Harry Ratcliffe and Georgia See Ratcliffe. He attended Pikeville High School where he was an outstanding football player. He was later named to the Pikeville High School Hall of Fame. After high school, he attended the University of Kentucky on a football scholarship where he played for the legendary Paul "Bear" Bryant. After college, he served in the Army and then married Barbara Justice of Pikesville, Kentucky in 1954. After a career in Sales and Contracting, he retired to Winchester, Virginia where he ran a vineyard on his farm.

In addition to his wife, Barbara of Winchester, Virginia, he is survived by three daughters; Georzetta Lynn Ratcliffe of Winchester, Virginia, Stephanie Lee Ratcliffe of Rainbow Lake, New York, and Daphne Uliana of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; two sisters; Caroline Ratcliffe and Chalotta Noyes both of Crestview, Florida; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brothers; Orville Ratcliffe, Maxwell Ratcliffe, Roy Ratcliffe, Jack Ratcliffe and Burl Ratcliffe; and three sisters Roberta Ratcliffe, Mary Margaret Samuels, and Anna Lee Ratcliffe.

Funeral arrangements are private.
