IN LOVING MEMORY OF
David "Dickey"
Wilbert Shanton, Jr.
August 6, 1970 – October 28, 2021
David "Dickey" Wilbert Shanton, Jr.
BORN AUGUST 6, 1970 - ASCENDED OCTOBER 28, 2021
If you met Dickey, at any point in time, you have heard of him, refer to himself as a David "Dickey" Wilbert Shanton Jr. gorilla; Silverback to be exact. Spending even a moment with him, it is evident that he embodies everything the Silverback encompasses. He was a pillar of strength, tenacity, bravery, and wisdom. His tough exterior guarded his gentle, empathetic, understanding heart. He was everyone's friend, yet he was never afraid to roll "one deep". He never hesitated to protect his tribe. Dickey was a true gorilla in every sense of the word.
Hailing proudly from Baltimore, Maryland, David "Dickey" Shanton graced this earth with his presence on August 6th, 1970. Just 51 years old, he departed from this realm on October 28, 2021. He was known to family and friends as "Dickey" and in his younger Martinsburg days as "Dick Jones".
David was a graduate of Martinsburg High School. In recent years, David fulfilled his entrepreneurial dream of creating authentic Baltimore style chicken boxes and perfecting his unique mumbo sauce recipe as owner/operator of Flava Dave's food truck.
David is survived by his son Dajuan Washington of Hartford, CT, daughters, Haley and Grace Shanton of Long Beach, CA, and Brea Slye of Martinsburg, WV. Also surviving David are his grandchildren, DaJuan Jr. and Londyn Washington of Hartford, CT, Dre ́a Ingram, Christian Blunt, and Zuri Anderson of Martinsburg, WV, his brothers, Darrell Shanton of Martinsburg, WV, Gerald "Bunky" Jones of Chambersburg, PA, Joseph "Fats" Brown of Baltimore, MD, two special nephews, Kevin Shanton of Front Royal, VA and Corey Williams of Martinsburg, WV, his father David W. Shanton Sr. of Coleman, FL, and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins, who were brothers and sisters to him. David was preceded in death by his biological mother, Nina Himple, his mother Dorothy "Peachy" Carey, and his father George "Percy" Carey.
The Boys and Girls Club was a huge part of David's childhood in Martinsburg. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to:
The Boys and Girls Club of the Eastern Panhandle, PO Box 1184, Martinsburg, WV 25402.
