Deacon Robert Preston Smith, Sr.

Robert Preston Smith Sr., 72, of Summit Point, WV, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at Winchester Medical Center. Robert was born on September 14, 1944 in Berryville, VA. He was the son of the late Bertrand Smith Jr. and Rebecca Smith of Berryville, VA.

He worked for the Clarke Courier in Berryville, VA for several years. He also worked for Seneca Excavating and Landscaping in Herndon, VA for 48 years as a truck driver. He served in the US Army for four years. He was a member and chairman of the Deacon board at Prosperity Baptist Church in Summit Point, WV.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

He married Edna Burns of Summit Point, WV on November 16, 1968.

He is survived by his wife, Edna Smith; two sons, Robert Smith Jr. and Kendall Smith of Summit Point, WV; daughter, Jennifer Smith of Winchester, VA; seven grandchildren;
Brother, James Smith of Martinsburg, WV; two sisters, Shirley Jackson of Winchester, VA and Doreen Butler of Blue Springs, MI and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Smith of Winchester, VA and his sister, Margaret Varmall of Baton Rouge, LA.

A funeral service will be held Saturday June 24, 2017 at 11AM at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, 1317 South Pleasant Valley Road in Winchester, VA.
Rev. Robert Jackson will bring the eulogy.

Viewing will be Saturday one hour before service at the church.

Military Honors will be afforded by the United States Army and
the Winchester VFW Post #2123.
