Rev. Deborah Jean Watt
The Reverend Deborah Jean Watt transitioned into the presence of her Lord on Monday, November 20, 2017 at the Parkersburg Care Center, WVU. She was 59.
She was born May 27, 1958 in Cleveland, Ohio and was the daughter of Gracie Watt and the late Floyd Watt. Rev. Watt was a graduate of Howard University where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry (1980), and she earned a Masters of Divinity Degree at Ashland Theological Seminary. She was a student in the Doctoral of Ministry Program at United Theological Seminary, Dayton, Ohio and the Ruby Memorial Hospital Chaplaincy program at the time of her passing.
She was employed with The DuPont Company for 35 years and was a Quality Manager in the Teflon® Business at the DuPont Washington Works Plant Site. She held several positions while employed with DuPont.
Rev. Deborah J. Watt answered God's call to preach and teach His Gospel and was ordained an Itinerant Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church in October 2011. She pastored the following churches: Whitman Chapel A.M.E. Church, Belpre, Ohio, Shaffer Chapel A.M.E Church in McIntyre, Ohio, Bethel AME Church, Parkersburg, WV and Wayman AME Church, Wheeling, WV.
Her additional areas of service were the West Virginia Annual Conference Secretary, the Assistant Secretary for the Pittsburg-WV Annual Conference, the Co-Chairperson of the Evangelist Team of the 3rd District, the Chairperson of Board of Directors of Voices of the Street, Inc. (Parkersburg, West Virginia), the West Virginia Conference Board of Examiners, a member of the Board of Directors of Reconciliation Ministries (Sterling Heights, Michigan) Mentored Youth at the Washington County Juvenile Center, Marietta, Ohio and led the Mt. Calvary A.M.E. Church Youth Ministry, Detroit, Michigan.
Reverend Watt loved her Lord and served the Church of Allen with an awesome passion. She never ceased to have a desire to do the work in the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ.
One of her favorite sayings was; "All that I am and all that I have I owe to the Lord".
Reverend Watt was very generous with her time and her treasure. Over the years, she gave to many who needed her spiritual guidance and her financial support.
She is survived by her mother, Gracie Watt of Cleveland, Ohio, a brother Lloyd Watt of Cleveland, Ohio, an uncle William Thomas (Dorothy) of Nashville, TN, and numerous cousins. Her father preceded her in death.
Visitation will be held at the Leavitt's Funeral Services on Thursday, November 30, 2017 from 6:00pm-8:00pm. The Homegoing Service will be held at Zion Baptist Church, 415 East 8th Street, Parkersburg, WV on Friday, December 1, 2017 at 11:000 am.
Interment will be Monday, December 4, 2017 at Shenandoah Memorial Park in Winchester, VA.
A memorial Service will be Monday 7:00 p.m., December 4, 2017 at St. Paul A.M.E Church in Winchester, VA.
