Della Marie Thomas
Della Marie Thomas, lovingly known as “Marie” to some and “Re-Re” to many, age 64, of Middletown, Virginia, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 2, 2026. Born on April 12, 1962, in Leesburg, VA.
Marie lived a life anchored in faith, love, and devotion to God. She did not just believe in the Lord, she trusted Him fully, stood firmly on His promises, and carried that faith with strength and grace throughout her life. There is no doubt that she is now rejoicing in His presence. Marie’s love for the Lord was woven into her everyday life. She could often be found around her home cleaning, cooking, or sitting in her living room by her window with the breeze while sermons played in the background, filling every room with the Word of God. Whether in quiet moments or busy days, she made space for Him, and that devotion shaped the peaceful, loving spirit everyone felt when they were around her.
She found joy in singing, attending church, and simply being outside enjoying nature, taking in the beauty of God’s creation. More than anything, Marie was a pillar for others, a steady source of encouragement, strength, and comfort. If you needed someone to lean on, she was there. If you needed prayer, she had you covered. Her presence made people feel safe, seen, and loved.
Marie also took great pride in her work as a dietary aide at Westminster Canterbury in Winchester, Virginia. She did not see it as just a job, rather a ministry of love. She made the dining experience special for those in her community, remembering names, sharing smiles, and serving each person with genuine care and compassion. Through her kindness and attention, she turned everyday moments into something meaningful for everyone she encountered.
Marie leaves behind a legacy of love through her children, Tamekia Thomas and Peter Thomas Jr. of Bunker Hill, WV, and Patrina Thomas of Winchester, VA; and her cherished grandchildren, Shynice Hamilton, Javell Holmes, and Jamari Holmes.
She is also lovingly remembered by her siblings: Tina Tibbs and Debbie Tibbs of Charlestown, WV; Carla “Peaches” Tibbs-Gray (Jay) of Leesburg, VA; Karen Hardy (Troy) of Waldorf, MD; and Bernie Lipscomb (Cathy) of Brunswick, MD. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews all of whom were blessed by her love.
She was preceded in death by her welcome committee, her beloved parents, James, and Peggy Tibbs Sr.; her brother, James Tibbs Jr.; and her nephew, Quintile Tibbs, who we believe joyfully welcomed her to her new “porch.”
Though her passing leaves a deep void, her family finds comfort in knowing she is now in the presence of her Savior healed, whole, and at peace, no cane, new hip, new walk, and a smile that lights up any space she is in. Her legacy of faith, love, and devotion to God will live on through all who knew her.
“Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your Lord.” — Matthew 25:23
The family of Marie would like to sincerely thank everyone for their love, prayers, support, and presence during this time. Your kindness and compassion mean more than words can express.
