Obituary

Dorothy Dokes Brown

Dorothy Dokes Brown, 75, affectionately known as "Toogie" was born in Clearbrook, VA on April 28, 1947, to the late Boaz Green and Carrie Dokes. Dorothy finished her earthly journey on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA.

Dorothy married the love of her life, Ralph Brown and to this union three children were born-Ralph, Carrie, and Herbert Brown.

To really know Dorothy was to love her because she had a heart of gold. She loved going to the races, having fun at the casino, and watching her favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys.  Dorothy also loved having Thanksgiving Dinner at her house, always sending numerous people plates.  She loved especially making punch bowl cakes for members of the family and friends on their birthdays. Most of all, she loved the Lord thy God and enjoyed having prayer with Pastor Imogene Smith.

Dorothy was gainfully employed at Crown, Cork, and Seal for over 30 years before retiring to take care of her ailing husband. There she met and bonded with her best friend Cynthia Vance. Dorothy also worked as a Civil Engineer for Dr. and Mrs. Dave McWhorter and Mr. Joe and Betty Manuel where she acquired her lavish ability to decorate.  Dorothy was not only their employee, but she became a part of each of their families.

She was a friend, a personal confidante, and a mother figure.

Along with her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, George Brown and their son, Herbert Brown. Her sister, Bessie Dokes (June), her brothers, Marshall and Arthur Dokes, brother-n-laws Kenneth, Richard and Melvin Carter, Perry, Herbert, Clinton and Helious Brown, Robert Stern, Sister-n-laws Mary, and Edna Dokes.

Left to cherish her memories are her son, Ralph Anthony Brown of Charlotte, NC and daughter, Carrie Hall (Bobbie) of Emporia, VA; one Goddaughter, Kim Grimes Smith. Grandchildren, Latoya Mills (Harry), Alvin Wilson Jr., Eric Wilson (Tiffany), Jordan Payton (Ashley), Jillian Brown and Anthony Simpkins.  Her grandchildren in love, Janziyan, Jayvion and Jaedyn Cook; great-grand-children Treya, Trey, and Ty Mills, Alesha Wilson, Elaina and Trenton Wilson, Kia and Valerie Payton, Dorian, Gabriella Jasen and Stormy Brown; one brother, Lawrence Dokes, two sisters Virginia Stern and Augusta Williams; two brother-n-laws, Norman Carter,(Mildred) and Lawrence Brown (Lela), four sister-n-laws, Beatrice Carter, Mildred Brown, Patricia Jones and Shelby Dokes; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Two talking buddies, friend, Paula Brooks, and nephew Joe Dokes.
