Dorothy “Dot” Virginia Wilson

Dorothy “Dot” Wilson, 84, of Winchester, Virginia, passed peacefully from this life to her heavenly home on July 18, 2026, with her family by her side.

Dorothy was born to Carl Floyd Sampson and Clara Virginia Sampson.

She was a homemaker, local artist, and musician. She was known throughout the area for her historical artwork, capturing the beauty and character of Winchesters landmarks and historic places. Dorothy shared her love of music as part of the family band By Faith Alone with her husband and children and also performed with Walter Bailes. Her artistic talents led to friendships with notable figures, including Mary Tyler Moore and Robert Duvall, for whom she created paintings of historical locations.

Dorothy married James Wilson on January 22, 1976, in Winchester. Their marriage was a true partnership built on love, companionship, and shared experiences. Together, they created a life filled with music, creativity, and memories that lasted nearly five decades. James was Dorothy's devoted husband and constant companion, and the two shared a special bond that remained strong throughout their years together.

She is survived by her children: Teresa M. Kincaid Silford (Rick), Barbara E. White (her late husband, Ronnie), Peggy Sue Cochran (Vance), and Robert W. Sampson (Stephanie); grandchildren: Jamie Haines, Michael Kincaid Jr., Steven Patterson, Michael Patterson, Samantha Knight, Lindsey Pozniak, Michelle Johnson, Brandon Sampson, Jonathan Sampson, Amanda Cox, Morgan Sampson, and Matthew and her great-grandchildren: Faith Haines, Grace Haines, Bryce Patterson, Caleb Patterson, Landon Patterson, Adalynn Larsen, Lola Pozniak, Jacob Pozniak, Hailey Cochran, Jaxon Knight, Maverick Knight, Cailee Anderson, Ethan Patterson, Jacob Sampson, Emory Cox, Valorie Cox, Reeve Johnson, Mabry Madeline Patterson, Everleigh Sampson, and Harley F. Crozier. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, James D. Wilson; her son, Carl Edward Sampson; her parents, Carl Floyd Sampson, and Clara Virginia Sampson; her brothers, Jerry Lee Sampson, Charles McKinley Sampson, and Carl Wayne Sampson; and her sister, Nancy Moyer.

Dorothy leaves behind a collection of artworks that preserves the history of Winchester, ensuring that her talent and contributions to the community will be remembered for years to come.

A private graveside burial will be held, at Mount Hebron Cemetery in Winchester.
