Elder Lonnie Travis Summers
The loved and well respected Elder Lonnie Travis Summers was born on February 18th, 1951. He was one of four children born to Ms. Luola Nelson and Mr. Philip Summers.
On August 7th, 1972, Eld. Lonnie Summers joined the U.S. Army where he served for two years. He took pride in his service and often shared stories amongst his siblings, children, and grandchildren. Although Eld. Summers had a stern militant background. He wore his heart on his sleeve for his family and loved them proudly. He was a strong-willed, motivated, and devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and was dedicated to providing his family with a
successful life. He often reminded his family to "put home first". He always enjoyed family gatherings and felt immense joy and comfort in the presence of his family. Eld. Summers often spoke highly of siblings, Elder Aaron Summers Sr. and Mr. Derek Summers and expressed how important it was that they stuck together and continued to have a strong brotherly bond.
Eld. Lonnie Summers had a few hobbies in his life. The one that he held the closest to his heart was fishing. He loved to go fishing and always bought new equipment to test out. He sought comfort and happiness in his hobby and often shared this hobby with the rest of family. Eld. Summers touched many lives throughout the duration of his lifetime with his kind-hearted spirit and was always willing to lend a helping hand in any way he could. Oftentimes that meant
doing handy work, but occasionally that meant lending a listening ear. He carried a unique perspective on life that allowed others to naturally seek advice
from him and he gave it free of judgment and bias. Along with his kind heart, he often loved to showcase his sense of humor and enjoyed making others laugh.
On January 5th 1975, Elder Lonnie Summers joined The Supreme Council of The House of Jacob. Shortly after joining, he was then elevated to junior minister the following year on August8th, 1976. Following this elevation, he received another elevation and became an ordained minister on August 24th, 2014. Elder Summers' love for handy work and helping others shined the brightest when it came to the House of Jacob. Eld. Summers helped with various projects such as: helping to build the boys dorm in Bethlehem, Ohio, helping build the Assembly Hall in Princess Anne, Maryland, helping to build the rostrum in Front Royal, Va, helping to lay down tile for the Winchester Mission, and helping to build the Winchester Mission Church. Along with his passion to help, he also had a passion for music. He loved playing the piano and bass and would go on to pass his knowledge of the piano onto his grandsons, Noah Harris and Malachi Strother.
Elder Lonnie Travis Summers, of Stephens City, Virginia peacefully departed this earth on October 8th, 2024. Lonnie is preceded in death by his mother, Ms. Luola Nelson, his sister Andree Smith, and his brother Elder Aaron Summers Sr. (Mrs. Cynthia Summers).
He is survived by his brother: Derek Summers (Mrs. Peggy Summers), his two daughters: Rachel Summers and Esther Summers; along with his four grandchildren: Malachi Strother, Micah Strother, Ania Summers, and Noah Harris and his first great-grandchild: Olivia Strother and a host of nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be at 11am, October 19th, 2024, at The Supreme Council of the House of Jacob in Winchester, Va., officiated by the Bishop Mark Faith.
The family will receive friends Friday October 18th, 2024, from 6:30-7:30pm at Cartwright Funeral Home in Winchester, Va.
Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery in Winchester, Va., with Military Honors by the United States Army and the VFW Post 2123
