Emily Christandria "Skimmy" Long-Coney
Emily Christandria Long Coney (known as Skimmy to her friends in Orange, VA.), beloved wife and best friend of Kenneth Coney of Berryville, VA, died on March 29, 2011 of flu and pneumonia after battling Multiple Myeloma Plasma for several years.
Born in 1942 she was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Louise Long and her brother William Maurice Bentleyand her daughter Tammmie. She was a graduate of George Washington Carver Regional High School in Culpepper County. She attended Virginia University in the 60s and later became a graduate of Lord Fairfax Community College in Middletown, VA, where she obtained a degree in design. She retired from a lengthy career as a Federal employee with the Civil Service Commission (later called OPM) and the US Navy as a civilian manager of the US Navy's Bureau of Personnel in Arlington, VA. In addition to painting, Emily played the violin and the piano and had briefly been with the Clarke County Band as a drummer.
Emily is survived by her husband and two sisters, Georgeana Bentley of Orange and Sylvia Henderson of Gordonsville; 7 nieces; Blondie and Renee Paige of Orange, Harriet Cave and Sandra Paige of Fredericksburg, Emily Cope of Stafford, Terry Bentley of Charlottesville, Marine Bentley of Virginia Beach, and a nephew Gordon Bentley of Delaware. She also is survived by her former Sister-in-law and long time friend Carol Bentley of Orange; 3 great-nieces, a great-nephew, 2 great-great-nieces and 2 great-great nephews.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday April 9, 2011 at the Satchell Funeral Home in Orange, VA.
