George Clinton K. Lane, Jr.
George Clinton Lane, Jr., of Stephens City, Virginia formerly of Somerset County, Maryland died January 5, 2009 at Blue Ridge Hospice in Winchester, Virginia.
Mr. Lane was born in Puncher Landing, Somerset County, Maryland on January 28, 1919 to the late George Clinton Lane, Sr. and Ethel Waters Lane. He was a member of St. Luke Methodist Church in Somerset County Maryland.
Mr. Lane was educated in the Worchester County Public Schools and he received a degree from Maryland State College. He taught high school prior to joining the United States Army in July of 1944. He received the Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon and the Army of Occupation Medal (Germany). He received an Honorable Discharge on July 20, 1946. Mr. Lane moved to Pennsylvania and worked for the Post Office until his retirement in 1976.
Mr. Lane Married Catherine Arneice Jeffers on August 28, 1943 and they were together in a loving union until her death on August 22, 1986.
He leaves to cherish his memory, one son, George Clinton Lane III of Stephens City, Virginia;a daughter-in-law Georgette Lane of Stephens City, Virginia; three sisters, Myrtle Mitchell of Pocomoke, MD., Delores Long of Baltimore, MD., and Audrey Lane of Pocomoke, MD; two brothers, Norman Lane of Bryn Mawr, PA and Frederick Lane of Baltimore, MD; three grandchildren: Michelle, Angela and Robert; six great-grandchildren:Shatora, Ashley, Tacarra, Kierra, Krissy and Darrien; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Two sisters, Marie Doan and Ruby Matthews; and three brothers, William Lane, John Edward Lane and Russell Lane all preceded him in death.
A Celebration of Life will be Friday January 9, 2009 at 7:00pm at DeBaptiste Funeral Home 601 E. Miner Street West Chester, PA.
Family will receive friends Friday evening one hour before service at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Gulph Christian Cemetery in Conshohocken, PA
