Gertrude Cary Smith
Gertrude Cary Smith, 81, of Winchester, Virginia died Friday December 25, 2009 at her home.
Mrs. Smith was born February 24, 1928 in Winchester, Virginia the daughter of the late George Cary and Mary Virginia Thomas Cary. She was a member of the St. Paul A.M.E. Church.
She was married to Robert Smith who preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter Mary Christine Day of Winchester, Virginia; three grandchildren, Toni Cary, Anthony Day and Almanza Day all of Winchester, Virginia; three sisters, Hannah Scott, Hallie Long, and Gladys Walker all of Winchester, Virginia; a host of great and great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
One grandson, John Edward Cary; three sisters, Mary Virginia Cary, Eleanor Brisco, and Alice Summers; and one brother George Cary all preceded her in death.
A Celebration of Life will be Wednesday December 30, 2009 at 1:00 p.m.
at St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Winchester, Virginia with Rev. Kevin E. Wilson officiating.
Family will receive friends one hour before service at the church.
Pallbearers will be David Ashby, Steve Washington, Paul Ross, Randolph Martin, Donald Finley, and Eddie Glover.
Honorary pallbearers are Alvin Morgan, Clarence Dokes, and Kenneth Cary.
Burial will be in Orrick Cemetery in Winchester, Virginia.
