Delores Clarke Nelson
Gwendolyn Delores Clarke Nelson died on Sunday, July 21, 2013, at the Winchester Medical Center after a long battle with cancer. She was 61 years old, and a resident of Winchester, VA.
Delores, who was often referred to as "Lois" by her loved ones, was born on March 24, 1952, to the late Reverend John Clarke Sr. and Blanche White Clarke. She was a member of the 1970 graduate class of Clarke County High School, worked at Rich Products Corporation for 30 years and as a Security Manager for Securitas at Kraft Foods, Inc., for approximately six (6) years. She was an active member of Saint Luke Baptist Church, where this "song bird" was a member of both the Gospel Choir and the Mass Choir. She also served on the church's Beautification Committee, consistent with her love of flowers.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Robert C. Nelson Sr.; three (3) stepchildren Malcolm Smith, Candace Tiana Nelson, and Robert C. Nelson Jr.; two (2) siblings Roland (Nat) Clarke (wife Marishell) and Mark Clark (wife Marietta); three (3) godchildren, Amanda Spain, Joshua Mason, and Devon Perkins; and a host of nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends as well as a very special neighbor, Teresa P. McCabe, who she truly thought of as a daughter.
Delores was preceded in death by her parents Reverend and Mrs. John Clarke Sr., her first husband, Rudolph Green, a brother John Clarke Jr., and two (2) sisters Joan Mason and Janice Harris.
On Friday, July, 26, 2013, a viewing is scheduled to be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Saint Luke Baptist Church in Berryville, VA. The funeral is scheduled to be held the next morning, Saturday, July 27, 2013, at 11:00 am at Grace Episcopal Church, also in Berryville, VA.
Interment will be in Milton Valley Cemetery in Berryville, VA
