Helen Joyce Rhodes Roberts
Helen Rhodes Roberts, 74, of Winchester, VA, passed into eternal life on Wednesday March 3, 2010 at
CMC - North East Medical Center in Concord, North Carolina.
Mrs. Roberts was born July 7, 1935 in Winchester, Virginia the daughter of the late Harold Williams and Ella Rhodes. She was a lifelong resident of Winchester, Virginia. She was a member of John Mann United Methodist Church in Winchester, Virginia. She was a member of the choir, Chairperson of Pastor Parrish Relations, and chairman of the program committee of the United Methodist Women. She was also a member and Daugther Ruler of Maggie Farrar Temple # 760 of the Elks. She was Past Loyal Daughter Ruler of the Rain Bow Council of Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia, Past State President of Virginia State Association. She was a former member of the American Association of Occupational Health Nurses.
Mrs. Helen Roberts was one of the first Afro - American women to graduate from the Winchester School of Nursing and went on to receive a BSN (RN) and credit towards her Masters in Health Administration.
She leaves to cherish her memory with her stepmother, Juanita Williams of Stephens City, Virginia; one daughter, Chiquita Roberts of Winchester, Virginia; three sons, Andrew "Andy" Roberts (Lynn) of Concord, N.C., Eric Roberts of Winchester, Virginia and Antony "Tony" Roberts of Capron, Virginia; one brother, Roy Rhodes (Carol) of New York; 7 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews and nieces.
Her Step father Lawrence Trent preceded her in death.
A Celebration of Life will be 11:00 am Tuesday March 9, 2010 at Market Street United Methodist Church, in Winchester, Virginia with Rev. James Page officiating.
Family will receive friends Monday March 8, 2010 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at the church.
Interment will be in Locust Grove Cemetery in Stephens City, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Charles Davis, Clyde Williams, Lamont Wines, Vincent Finley, Arnold Fox
and Ethan Hicks.
Honorary Pallbearers are Dr. James "Mac" Brown and Donald Finley.
