Herbert Lee Williams
Herbert Lee Williams, 87, of Norfolk, VA, formerly of Winchester, VA., quietly departed this life on February 1st, 2018 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, VA. He was born on January 22, 1931 in Danville, VA to the late Ottoway Williams and Maxine Hopkins Williams in Danville, VA.
He graduated from John Langston High School in 1949 and continued his education at North Carolina Central University obtaining degree in Business Administration in 1953. Mr. Williams professed hope in Christ at a early age and was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church in Danville, VA., during his youth. Upon Mr. Williams and his family moving to Winchester, VA., he became a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Winchester, VA. He was employed with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (Mt Weather location) as a Communication Specialist until his retirement in 1989.
He was a soft-spoken man who enjoyed reading the daily newspaper, listening to a variety of music, watching game shows and was a politician in his own right.
In 1959, he united in Holy Matrimony to Mary Novella Haymes-Williams, who preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his memories his one loving and devoted daughter, Cedonia A. Carter of Norfolk, VA. one son Ernest E. McClelland of Harford, CT.; four grand-daughters, Verona Burrell of Rochester, NY., Samantha McClelland of Woodbridge, VA., and Keiara and Kayla Carter both of Norfolk, VA.; three great-grand-children, Ibn McClelland of Woodbridge, VA., Kapre and Harmony Carter of Norfolk, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews. cousins, relatives and friends.
One son Samuel McClelland preceded him in death.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday
February 8th, 2018 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Winchester, VA.
Viewing will be Thursday February 8th, 2018, one hour before service at the church.
Entombment will be at Shenandoah Memorial Park in Winchester, VA.
