John Bertram "JJ" Townley
John Bertram "JJ" Townley, of Boyce, VA, departed this life Thursday October 22, 2015 in Winchester VA. He was born June 21, 1954 the son of the late
Jane Pollard and Ernest W. Townley
A graduate of Clarke County High School, in his early years he attended Zion Baptist Church, Boyce, VA and served on the Jr. Usher Board. His career included long tenures at Avtex in Front Royal, VA, until their closure and then as a dispatcher at the Roof Center in Chantilly and Winchester, VA.
An avid sports fan, John's favorite past times were bowling, fishing and horse racing. On any given day he could be found casting a line on the banks of Lake Frederick or watching the races at Charles Town Race Track with his wide circle of friends. His favorite sports teams were the Baltimore Orioles, Oakland Raiders, North Carolina Tarheels, Washington Capitals and Chicago Bulls.
He is survived by two sisters; Jane (Ernestine) Townley Jackson of Berryville, VA and Deborah Lea Townley, of Boyce; one brother Charles Townley of Stephen City, VA; one step-brother, Terry Randolph; special friends; Vanette Jackson, Bushrod Carey, Jr., Shag Travis, and Chuck Thornton; nieces, nephews and many cherished friends.
He was preceded in death by, maternal grandmother, Mrs. Annie Fells; brother, Joseph (JE) Townley, and Madison L. Jackson, great-niece, aunts and uncles. His memory will always be cherished by his family, friends, and associates.
A Celebration of life Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday October 29, 2015 at Cartwright Funeral Home with Minister Charmissa Biscoe officiating.
Family will receive friends one hour before service at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Love and Charity Cemetery in Millwood, Virginia
