John Douglas Bland Travis
John Douglas Bland Travis, 96, of Winchester, VA, was escorted into heaven on Saturday, December 31, 2016. He was born December 28, 1920 in White Post, VA., the son of the late James Travis and Lillie Bland Travis. He received his education at Douglas School. He served in the United States Army-Air Force during the World War II era. He was a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Winchester, VA.
John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He is survived by his loving daughter, Tina Bowen (Thorton), of Louisville, KY; three sisters, Mary Butler, Priscilla Williams and Beatrice Cartwright (Allen) all of Winchester, VA., and brother, Roland Bland of Washington, DC.; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
He was married to Una Dixon Travis and later to Dorothy Ann Travis; both wives preceded him in death. His stepsons, Gary Hughes, Avon Hughes and Shabaka Jesui and two siblings; Lucille Bland Moten and Kelly Head also preceded him in death.
A celebration of Life will be held on Friday 11:00 am January 6th 2017 at Cartwright Funeral Home in Winchester, VA.,with Rev. Fowlkes.
The viewing will be one hour before service at the funeral home.
Burial with Military Honors Afforded by the United States Army and the Winchester VFW Post # 2123 will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Winchester, VA.
