Lana Diane Brown
Lana D. Brown, 59, Winchester, VA., passed away on Friday, January 17, 2014 at Blue Ridge Hospice Center in Winchester, VA.
She was born February 2, 1954 in Winchester, VA., the daughter of the late Annie Jackson Lewis and Russell Franklin Lewis, Sr. Lana worked briefly for Mt. Weather in Clarke County and also for Nichols Dept. Store until her first grandchild was born in 1988. She then quit, to take care of him to allow her daughter to remain in school and she became a full time housewife to her late husband, Franklin D. (Pete) Brown.
Lana went to school in Clarke County. She was a member of the high school chorus and graduated from Clarke County High School in 1973. She went on to college at Shenandoah College and Conservatory of Music and majored in music as a singer, until giving birth to her daughter, Monique Nicole Lewis. Lana and Pete were married in December of 1977 and resided in Winchester, V, until their death.
Lana was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Berryville and later a member of St. Stephens C.M.E. Church in Winchester, VA., where she and her husband, Pete both attended and were members of the choir. Lana also taught Sunday School at St. Stephens C.M.E. Church.
She is survived by two sisters, Bonita Yvonne Lewis of Winchester and Roberta Mae Lewis of Millwood, VA.; a brother Richard Henry Lewis of Winchester, VA.; an adopted daughter, Lolita Greene of Winchester, VA; a grandson, Jeremy Tyrell Lewis of Richmond, VA.; a granddaughter, Alysha Ty-Ann Lewis of Winchester, VA., and a host of nephews, nieces and cousins.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 25, 2014 at St. Stephens C.M.E. Church, 202 Maple Street in Winchester, VA.
