Obituary

Lawrence E. “Mutt” Dokes

Lawrence E. Dokes of Bunker Hill, WV, died September 26, 2026, at his home. He was born to the late Carrie G. Dokes on June 1, 1941, in Clearbrook, VA (Cedar Hill).

He was a member of the Prosperity Baptist Church in Jamestown, WV. He worked for Hazel Trucking Company for over thirty years.

He was married to the late Mary “Sugar Pie” Dokes.

Surviving is a son, Anthony (Tony) Dokes, and companion, Ashley of Bunker Hill, WV; two sisters, Virginia Stern and Augusta Williams; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, especially James Lockley, Stan and Raymond Washington, Jr.

Also, two granddaughters, Tanisha Dokes, and Kaelyn Dokes.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Bessie Dokes and Dorothy Brown,: brothers, Arthur Dokes and Marshall Dokes; and mother, Carrie G. Dokes.

A Celebration of Life Service will be at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at Cartwright Funeral Home in Winchester, Virginia, with Rev. Robert Jackson officiating.

Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park in Winchester, VA.
