Lucille Virginia Long
Lucille Virginia Long, 85, Winchester, VA., passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at Blue Ridge Hospice Center in
Winchester, VA.
She was born March 23, 1928 in Amissville, VA., the daughter of the late Herman Henry Gales and Fannie Togans Gales. She was a member of Zion Baptist Church in Berryville, Va., where a served as a Deaconess and on the Missionary Board. Mrs. Long was very active in the community. She was a past Board Member of CCap and the American Red Cross as well as a founding member of the North End Citizens" Association. She remained active in Volunteering in Policing with the Winchester City Police, a member of the North End Citizens' Association, Coalition for Racial Unity, was a part of the Family Selection committee with Habitat for Humanity and member of the Winchester Rental Housing Advisory Committee.
She was married to Jasper Long on June 22, 1950, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by two sister-in-laws, Mildred Gales and Beulah Martin both of Winchester, VA; nephews, Arturo Gales and Wayne Gales both of Martinsburg, WV, and Cliffton Campbell and Randolph Martin, Albert Martin III, John Wesley Martin, Sr. and Benjamin Martin all of Winchester, VA; nieces, Joyce Gibson of Hagerstown, MD and Kim Hunter of Martinsburg, WV, and Cynthia Martin Banks of Winchester, VA.; and Godsons, Joseph Harris of Dumfries, VA and James Harris of Houston, TX.
She was preceded in death by her brothers Arthur Gales and Edgar Roy, Jr.
A Celebration of Life Service will be 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Zion Baptist Church in Berryville, with Rev. Delbert Hicks officiating.
Visitation will be held at one hour before service.
Interment will be in Orrick Cemetery in Winchester, VA.
