Deacon Marcus Junior Harris

Marcus Junior Harris, 81, of Winchester, VA., passed away November 29, 2010 at his home with his loving wife (Sharlene) at his side.

He was born March 6, 1929 in Winchester, VA., the son of the late Marcus H. Harris and Flossie Puller. Marcus served as a Firefighter and Pump Operator in the military during the Korean Conflict in Germany for fourteen months. After his military service he returned to Winchester and married the former Sharlene Combs. He worked for Crider & Shockey Company and retired in 1991 after nineteen years of service. Marcus joined Zion Baptist Church, Berryville, VA in 1976. He served as a Deacon, member of the Men's choir, Gospel Tones, Sanctuary Choir and the Trustee Ministry.

He was married to Sharlene Combs Harris of Winchester, VA for 52 years.

He leaves to cherish his memory with his loving wife,two daughters Betty Porter of Winchester, VA.and Tamu Brow of Titusville, Florida; a grandson Curtis Lee Porter, Sr. (Sheryl) of Centreville, VA; great-grandsons Curtis, Jr. of Manassas, VA and Jordan Porter of Centreville, VA; great-great grandson Keyton Lee Summers of Charity, VA; and a host of loving nieces and nephews. His niece Pamela Mason was his caregiver.

He was predeceased by his sisters Geneva Shaw, Susan Mason, Melissa Harris, Mattie Nelson and brothers Sandy and Charles Harris.

A Celebration of Life Service will be 11:00 am December 3, 2010 at Zion Baptist Church in Berryville, VA. with Pastor Delbert Hicks officiating.

Family will receive friends from viewing 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm Thursday evening at the church.

Pallbearers will be Phil Harris, John Mason, Sr., John Mason, Jr., Ronald Nelson, Rick Nelson, Chris Mason, and Marcus Mason.

Interment will be at Charles "Buster" Jackson Community Cemetery in White Post, VA with Military Honors Afforded by the Winchester VFW Post 2123.
