Margretta Baltimore Turner, the youngest of seven children born to the late Simon Peter Baltimore and Celestine Proctor Baltimore Hill, was born on January 26, 1924 in Strasburg, Virginia.
She departed this life on September 2, 2020, at Warren Memorial Hospital in Front Royal, Virginia.
She joined the Mount Vernon Baptist Church at an early age. She was a member of the choir and was, also, affiliated with the Gethsemane Baptist Church in Washington, DC, during her time there.
Margretta married F. Ellsworth Turner on January 26, 1958. She was socially active with the following organizations prior to her illness ---The Order of the Eastern Star of Virginia-Apple Blossom Chapter 196, and the Washington, DC Chapter, a member of The Cavalette Club, The Good Hope Cemetery Association and the NAACP.
Margretta leaves to cherish her memory, five nieces; Shirley Ashley, East Point, GA; Martha Taylor, Silver Spring, MD; Odessa Colvin- Carrollton, TX; Barbara Sprewell, Columbia, SC; Mary McGuffey, Silver Spring, MD; one nephew- Claude W. Travis, Front Royal, Virginia; fourteen grand nieces and nephews, as well as great-great nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Three brothers, Clarence Baltimore, Early Baltimore and Thomas Baltimore; two sisters, Ada B. Travis and Ella B. Hicks all preceded her in death.
A Celebration of Life Service will be 12:00 p.m. Friday September 11, 2020 at Cartwright Funeral Home in Winchester, VA., with Rev Alfred Woods officiating.
A walk-through viewing will be 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Friday, September 11, 2020 at Cartwright Funeral Home in Winchester, VA.
