Mary Elizabeth Martin

Mary Elizabeth Martin, 80, of Winchester, Virginia died Sunday July 6, 2008 at Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, Virginia.

Mrs. Martin was born November 29, 1927 in Winchester, Virginia the daughter of the late John Wesley Thomas and Elizabeth Green Thomas. She was a member of St. Paul A.M.E. in Winchester, Virginia where she was a member of the Senior Choir, and Ladies Auxiliary to the Improvement Committee and Stewardess. She also was a member of the Apple Blossom Chapter #196 of Eastern Star of Winchester.

She was married to Albert F. Martin, Jr. of Winchester for 60 years.

She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Cynthia Banks of Winchester, Virginia; two sons, Albert F. Martin III of Stephens City, Virginia and John Wesley Martin, Sr. of Winchester, Virginia; four sisters, Mary Brisco of Berryville, Virginia, Jeanette Martin of Manassass, Virginia, Louise Thomas of Matthew, N.C. and Evangelist Ruby Dokes of Inwood, WV; four brothers, Robert Thomas, David Thomas and Rev Peter Thomas all of Winchester, Virginia, and Paul Thomas of Manassas, Virginia; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Two sisters, Virginia Throckmartin and Nancy Kornegay and three brothers, Chester Thomas, Charles Henry Thomas and John Tibbs all preceded her in death.

Celebration of Life service will be 12:00 pm Saturday July 12, 2008 at St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Winchester, Virginia with the Pastor Kevin E. Wilson officiating.

Family will receive friends one hour before service at the church. Friends may call Friday July 11, 2008 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Cartwright Funeral Home in Winchester, Virginia

Burial will be in Orrick Cemetery in Winchester, Virginia

Pallbearers will be William Charles Banks,Jr, Vernon Banks, Albert F. Martin IV, John W. Martin, Jr., Justin C. Martin, and Shaun C. Martin.
