Mary Louise Williams Buckner
Mary Louise Williams Buckner, 84, of Winchester, VA, entered eternal rest at her home on January 11, 2012.
Mrs. Buckner was born June 18, 1927 in Winchester, VA, the daughter of the late Charles Edward Williams, Sr. and Martha Jane Spence Williams. She was a graduate of Douglas School in Winchester, VA and Apex Beauty College in Washington, DC. She was the owner and operator of Mary's Beauty Shop for many years.
Mrs. Buckner was a member of Saint Paul A.M.E. Church where, during her lifetime, she was a member of the Senior Choir, Senior Usher Board, Steward Board, Missionary Board, Secretary of the Trustee Board, Director of the first Youth Choir, Church Secretary and member of the Saint Paul Building Fund Auxiliary. She was one of the founding members of the Jolly Poodle Club and was treasurer for 36 years. Mary was a longtime member, former Daughter Ruler and State President of the Maggie Farrar Dismond Temple No. 760 of IBPOE of W, where she held various offices during her tenure. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Davis-Williams Post #6044 of the VFW. Mary was an avid bowler who consistently led her team to state championships.
Mary was the loving wife of William W. Buckner of Winchester, VA.
She leaves to cherish her memory, with her husband; a son, Charles W. Finley of Richmond, VA; a daughter, Sandra L. Finley of Winchester, VA; 6 grandchildren, Maurice Washington, Herman Washington, III, Valerie Emerson (Ryan), Cynthia Washington, Charles Washington and Iantha Malbon (William); 8 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
A brother, Charles Edward Williams, Jr., preceded her in death.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 17, 2012, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Saint Paul A.M.E. Church, 428 N. Loudoun St., Winchester, VA.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at Saint Paul A.M.E. Church.
Interment will be in Orrick Cemetery in Winchester, VA.
In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Mary Buckner may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 West Cork St., #405, Winchester, VA 22601 (www.blueridgehospice.org) or Saint Paul A.M.E. Historic Preservation Fund, 428 N. Loudoun St., Winchester, VA 22601.
