ichael (Mike) Coleman Jordan, Sr. was born on February 17, 1947, to Pearl Groves Jordan and Brevious Edward Jordan, Sr. in Charlottesville, VA, the youngest son of five children.
Mike entered his heavenly home on April 3, 2014, departing this life from his residence in Front Royal, VA surrounded by his family.
He was preceded in death by his father, brother Brevious (Butch) Jordan, Jr., and granddaughter Jordyn Hammonds.
Mike attended Criser High School where he played the drums in the marching band.
He graduated from Warren County High School in 1965 where he was one of the first African-Americans on the school's basketball team.
A veteran of the United States Navy, Mike served aboard on the USS Cadmus. During his tour in Vietnam, Mike was exposed to 'agent orange' which eventually led to his illness and death.
He was honorably discharged from military service after four years, decorated with the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Combat Action Ribbon, and the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon.
From his youth, Mike was a member of the Mount Vernon Baptist Church where he served the last five years as Church clerk, a Sunday school teacher, and was a founding member and president of the Men's Chorus.
He also previously attended John Mann UMC in Winchester, VA.
Recently retired, Mike's career as an appraiser with the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) inspired the start of his own appraisal service, JAS Appraisals. Mike was previously employed in computer technology at Handley High School in Winchester, VA.
In 2011, Mike married Marilyn Sahilan. Besides his wife, Mike is survived by two sons: Michael Jordan, Jr. of Landover, MD and Raymond Jordan of Phoenix, AZ, and two daughters: Stephanie Bullet Smith of Hopewell, VA and Arielle Jordan Hammonds of Front Royal, VA. Others left to cherish Mike's memory are: his mother, Pearl Groves Jordan of Front Royal;
brother Gregory Jordan of Pampanga, Philippines; two sisters: Giselle (Harvey) Jordan-Savage of Toledo, OH and Rev. Brevetta Jordan of Front Royal, VA; four grandsons: Gary Scott, Rohelio, Raul, and Reyez
Smith, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be 11:00 am Friday April 11
th
, 2014 at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Front Royal, VA with the Rev. Harold L. Brown.
Visitation will be one hour before service at the church.
Internment with Military Honors will be in Culpeper National Cemetery in Culpeper, VA.
