Nelma Arizona Puffinburger Adams

Nelma Arizona Puffinburger Adams died peacefully at the age of 100 at Greenfields Memory Care on December 15, 2017.

She was the last surviving child of Oliver Clayton and Lydia Roberta (Clark) Puffinburger of Points, West Virginia and last surviving grandchild of John Wesley and Elizabeth Ann (Shade) Puffinburger of Frederick County, Virginia. Nelma was born on January 22, 1917 as the youngest of eleven children.

She was married to Harold Simon Adams who died in July 1984.

She is survived by seven of their eight children. Dorothy E. Clark, Harold D. Adams, Howard W. Adams, Roberta K. Coffman, Gerald W. Adams, Patricia A. Burkhart, and Robert C. Adams. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Nelma is preceded in death by her youngest child, Janet S. Adams who died January 10, 1992. She is also preceded in death by her parents, Oliver (OC) and Lydia (Bertie) Puffinburger, and her ten siblings: Marvin Puffinburger, Aven Puffinburger, Virgie Hawkins, Muzetta Sisk, Edna Rowzee, Myrtle Grimes, Oscar Puffinburger, Ervin Puffinburger, Owen Puffinburger, and Murriel Merritt Herbaugh. She is also preceded in death by her step-mother, Sarah Anne Curtis Puffinburger of North Carolina. Nelma grew up working the Puffinburger family peach orchard and farm on Jersey Mountain in Points, West Virginia.

She worked the shipyard during World War II in Pennsylvania, the apple orchards in Levels, West Virginia and retired as a seamstress from Schoeman Men's Suit factory in Winchester, Virginia. For many years she was a snowbird spending winters in Ruskin and Sebastian, Florida with extended family and returning to Winchester,
Virginia for summers.

A private memorial service will be held at the Wesley Chapel in Levels, West Virginia, at a later date.

The family of Nelma wishes to thank the caregivers of Greenfield's Assisted Living Facility in Strasburg, Virginia and the Blue Ridge Hospice in Strasburg, Virginia.
