Mrs. Rubye Lee Skinner, 83, of Winchester, VA. passed on to her Heavenly rewards on Thursday August 8, 2019 at Blue Ridge Hospice in Winchester, VA.
Mrs. Skinner was born on March 09, 1936 in Galax, VA. Daughter of the late George C. Green and Lucille Graham Green.
Rubye and her brother, the late Rance "R.C." Green were raised by their aunt Bertha Ivey Green on the family farm in Galax, VA., eventually moving to Pittsburgh with her family. Rubye attended high school in Pittsburgh, PA and college in Salem, SC. After school Rubye moved to Queens, N.Y. and worked for the United Postal Service at JFK airport where she met William Augustus Skinner.
Rubye and William "Bill" Skinner were married on July 17th, 1959.
Rubye was a member of Hollis Ave. Congregational Church in Hollis, N.Y. where she was a member of the Missionary Ministry. Rubye worked for 9 years with Tupperware Inc., rising to the ranks of manager with her good friends Lucille Giscombe, Alice O'Connor and Vashti Bailey. Rubye averaged about $1000.00 in sales weekly over 30 years ago which was a vast achievement. Rubye received 4 cars and multiple accolades while with Tupperware.
Rubye rec'd her travel agent license in 1982 booking excursions to the Bahamas, New York Dude ranches, Atlantic City and cruises for family and friends. There were a lot of good times on those trips. Lots of very good memories and friends made.
Rubye moved to Los Angeles in 1990 to follow her husband who had to take a job there. After taking care of the house in New York Rubye packed up her grandchildren who she was fostering at the time and proceeded to Los Angeles.
Rubye took a very fulfilling job as a teacher's aide for disabled elementary school students. She loved the time she spent working for the Culver City Unified School District.
Rubye was preceded in homegoing by her brother Rance "R.C." Green and her husband William Augustus Skinner.
Rubye leaves behind to cherish her memory 5 children Gayle Tonette Skinner (Shawn Newton), William Eric Skinner, Saundra Michelle Murph (Norman Curtis Murph Sr.), Richard Todd Skinner, and Darran Skinner (Sumiyo Ogawa Skinner) all of Winchester, VA.
Rubye now watches over her 9 grandchildren Dwayne Mark Wiltshire, Sheana Alese Thomas (Geoffrey Thomas), Norman Curtis Murph Jr. (Tonya Gray Murph), William Todd Wiltshire, Corey Darnell Murph (Linnea Stokes-Murph), Brittney Michelle Murph, Christopher Lance Skinner, Kyle Aaron Murph, and Bianca Mercedes Skinner
Rubye also has 10 great grandchildren Dwayne Jr., Anastasia, Serenity, Savion, Monet, Mia, Andre, Chanel, Alaya, and Melanie who will miss GG Ma greatly. A host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends are left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life!!!
A celebration of Life will be Thursday August 15, 2019 at 11:00 am at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, 1317 S Pleasant Valley Road in Winchester, VA. with Rev. Diane Simmons officiating.
Family will receive friends one hour before service at the church.
Internment at Culpeper National Cemetery on Friday August 16, 2019.
