Obituary

Samuel "Sammy" L. Finley Sr.
Samuel L. Finley, 69, entered eternal rest on Monday, March 25 2013 at his home in Keyser, West Virginia.

He was born on March 3 1944 in Winchester, Va. Sammy grew up in Winchester, on Pall Mall Street, where he was a member of the beloved Tater Hill Gang. (You all know who you are and he held you near to his heart.) He attended Douglas High School in Winchester.

He worked for the Public Utilities Dept. of the City of Winchester where he retired after 28 years of service. His family would like to thank the H. R. Dept. of the city of Winchester for all of their help and support.

Sammy married Debbie Kay Carter of Keyser, WV in 1988.


Sammy was preceded in death by his mother, Ida Mae Finley whom he cherished, two sisters, Constance Mae Williams and Helen Finley and his beloved grandparents, Lesley and Lily Finley in whose home he spent his early years.

Sammy is survived by his wife Debbie, and his sons, Samuel Finley JR (Sarah) of Inwood W.Va. And Wayne Finley of Winchester. Also a step daughter, Melinda Holsinger of Keyser W.VA. 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two sisters, Audrey Finley Perry and Barbara Finley Davis (Curtis) of Winchester. He also leaves to cherish his memory a host of nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Sam and also many cousins and extended family.

A funeral service will be held at Cartwright Funeral Home, 232 E. Fairfax Ln. Winchester, Va. on Tuesday April 2, 2013 at 12pm. A visitation will be held one hour before the funeral starting at 11am at the funeral home.

Sammy's final resting place will be at Orrick's Cemetery in Winchester, VA.

The family will be greeting friends and relatives at the Elks Lodge on N. Kent St. Winchester immediately following the burial service
