IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sharon Lynn
Barbour
May 11, 1956 – April 29, 2019
Sharon Lynn Barbour
On Monday, April 29, 2019, our beloved niece, cousin and friend, Sharon Lynn Barbour, departed this life at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Springs, MD. She was born on May 11, 1956, in the District of Columbia to the late William and Bertha Barbour.
Sharon was a proud DC native and a part-time country girl, who spent many weekends and summers in Front Royal, Virginia with family. She graduated from Northwood High School in Silver Spring, MD and later continued her education at the University of District Columbia. She was briefly married to Charles Speaks, with whom she maintained a friendship throughout the years. She took her spiritual journey as a member Forestville New Redeemer Baptist Church, where she was active until her health began to decline.
Sharon worked as a civilian employee of the DC Government for more than 30 years. She became like family to many of her co-workers in the Metropolitan Police Department where she worked in the 6th District, 3rd District, and Headquarters.
Sharon loved to socialize and shop. She often worked part-time jobs to support these pastimes, working in her favorite retail store to shop with employee discounts, ushering at various theaters to see plays and concerts, and being an event planner to coordinate bus trips to Atlantic City and play the slots.
Sherry, as she was fondly called, is survived by her Uncle Charles Barbour of Front Royal, VA; Aunt Elvie Barbour of Silver Springs, MD; and a host of cousins and friends who miss her dearly. Three cousins held a special place in Sharon's heart: Renee Barbour, her "little sister"; Anthony (Tony) Barbour, her "brother"; and Sharon Shields her "namesake twin." She also dearly loved Moppet, her dog.
In our hearts your Memory lingers,
Sweetly, tender, fond and true;
There is not a day dear Sharon,
That we do not think of you.
