Sherry Lynn Burks

Sherry Lynn Burks, age 69, of Stephens City, VA, passed away on December 2, 2024, at Winchester Medical Center with her family by her side.

She was born on February 28, 1955, in Winchester, VA, to Warren and Evelyn Prather.

Sherry graduated from James Wood High School and Lord Fairfax Community College. Sherry was known for her strong will, expressiveness, and passion. She was a loving sister, wife, and mother who worked tirelessly in every job she had. Sherry loved bowling and spent much of her life at Northside Lanes, where she met her husband, Ken. In retirement, she enjoyed a simple life spent with her husband and cats, cherishing time with her grandchildren each summer by the pool at the home she and Ken built together. Sherry's greatest love was Ken and their marriage, they were married for 41 years until his death in 2022.

She is survived by her son, Shawn Michael, daughter-in-law, Jessie, grandchildren, Paisley and Paxton, and her sister, Barbie Carlisle.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ken Burks; her father, Warren Prather; her mother, Evelyn Prather; and her sisters, Ann Prather, Donna Affleck, and Debbie McCann.

A funeral service will be held on December 16, 2024, at Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Winchester, VA., Rev. Dr, Gilbert M. Mack, Jr. officiating.

Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM, followed by the service at 12:00 PM.

Entombment will be at Shenandoah Memorial Park in Winchester, VA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Dakota's Dream Animal Rescue.

To my mother in Heaven, thank you for always loving me and guiding me. Even though you are no longer here with me, I can still feel your love guiding me. You will always be in my heart.
