Walter Thomas Barnes
Walter T. Barnes, 80, of Winchester, VA died Thursday September 15, 2016 in Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg, WV.
He was born May 14, 1936 Seaboard, NC the son of the late Rebecca Stephenson and Quincy Barnes. He was a 1954 graduate of GumBerry High School in Seaboard, N.C. He served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1958. During his time he was stationed in Taipei, Taiwan serving under General Benjamin O Davis, Jr. He was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Winchester, VA. He was employed with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (Mt. Weather Location) until 1984 as a Communication equipment specialist. He was a Prince Hall Masonic Member of the Apple Blossom Lodge in Winchester, VA.
He married his high school sweet heart Georgia Louise Barnes in 1969 who preceded him in death.
He is survived by his two daughters; Michelle Barnes-Russell (Phil) and Joyce Barnes both of Martinsburg, WV; three grandchildren, Phillip Russell, Jonai L. Jackson and Jalliyah L. Mason
A brother, James Winstead preceded him in death.
A Celebration of Life Service will be 12:00 p.m. Tuesday September 20th 2016 at Mt Carmel Baptist Church 1317 S. Pleasant Valley Road in Winchester, VA., with Pastor Gilbert M. Mack, Jr.
Family will receive friends Tuesday September 20th 2016 one hour before service at the church.
Military Honors will be afforded by the United States Air Force and the Winchester VFW Post # 2123 at the church in Winchester, VA.
Interment will be Thursday, September 22, 2016 at Phillip Cemetery in Seaboard, NC following a viewing from 12:00 to 1:00 pm at Faison Funeral Home in Seaboard, N.C.
