Wesley E. Dean Ortley
December 03,1953-October 17, 2025
Wesley E. Dean Ortley, 71, passed away on October 17, 2025, in
Baker, West Virginia. He was born on December 03,1953
in Long Island, Nebraska.
Wes lived a life marked by resilience, hard work, and
an unwavering love for his family.
Wesley's early years included time at a Native American boarding
school in the Midwest. He emerged with determination and
purpose. He earned his GED and became a certified welder,
taking pride in his craft. Afterward, he worked diligently as a
truck driver for Waste Management and later as a maintenance
worker on a farm in Berryville, VA.
Known for his infectious laughter and quick wit, Wesley had a
talent for bringing joy to others. His signature sayings- "Go to
Bed," "Smoking bud and drinking bud," "Fire it up," and "If you
do not believe me just ask me"- remain cherished memories
among his family and friends.
Family was at the heart of everything Wes did. He is lovingly
remembered by his children Dorthy and Andy LaPorta, Kimberly
and Steve Collins, Janette Cox, Mary Campbell, and Juanita
Ortley. His grandchildren Roxanne Grooms, Richard "Ricky" and
Laura Zinn, Colleen Zinn, Rachel and Scott Williamson, Joeseph
Ratcliff, Dean Collins, Carolyn Collins, Theodore Cox, Leeann
Dorgan, Jennifer Morrow, Benjimen McIntosh, Ethan Ortley, and
John McGranahan.
He is also survived by many Great-grandchildren and
2 Great-great grandchildren.
He is also survived by His siblings Mona and Sonny Bear Hill, Merle and
Donna Redbear, Donette Redbear, Jeffery Dolbear,
and Evelyn Kongi, Georgette Kongi. Step siblings Ray Rouillard, Vern
Rouillard, and Sonia Rouillard. Many nieces and nephews and
cousins in the west.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Virginia Ortley;
parents Delores Redbear and Clarence Ortley; children Patricia
Zinn, Richard David Zinn, and Roger Zinn; siblings Elvis Ortley,
Toni Owen, and his aunt Verna who raised him and siblings.
Grandchildren Marvin Grooms sr, Christopher Cox, LaTarian
White; and David T. Zinn.
Services will be held on October 24, 2025. The viewing will be at
11am and service at 12 pm at Cartwright Funeral Home in
Winchester, Va
Interment will be at Shenandoah Memorial Park in
Winchester, VA.
