Wesley "Tinker" M. Thompson, Jr.
On September 17th, 2007 at 2:14 Monday afternoon. our beloved son, father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to all departed this life.
"Tinker" as he was fondly known was born March 6, 1950 in Winchester, Virginia, the son of the late Wesley M. Thompson, Sr. and Doris Catlett Thompson of Winchester.
Tinker was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Davis-Williams VFW Post 6044 in Winchester, an at large member of the American Legion. He served in the Viet Nam War and served his country in many other capacities.
Tinker served in the United States Marines from 1969 until 1972. He then attended Lord Fairfax Community College where he earned an Associated Degree in Police Science. He then went to work as a Deputy Sheriff in Luray, Virginia. After becoming a sheriff, Tinker reenlisted in the United States Army, serving from 1977 until 1995, with the 82nd Airborne Division, and through his military career he served as a Drill Sargent, and also an Infantry in the United States Army. He received many awards and accommodations while serving our country. After retiring from the Army he worked as a Detention Specialist at the Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester.
He is survived by hi his mother, Doris Thompson; one daughter, Wacovia Thompson-Land; two sons, Darius Thompson and David Ashby (Tracy) both of Winchester; two sisters, Barbara Baltimore(Irvin), and Charlotte Washington (Paul) of Winchester, Two grandchildren, Courtney and David, Jr.; two nieces, April Kier and Monique Washington of Winchester; and four great-nieces and nephews that he dearly loved and adored, and a host of close and special friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be 1:00pm on Saturday, September 22, 2007 at Kernstown United Methodist Church in Kernstown, Virginia. Rev. Carroll C. Carter will be officiating the service. Friends may visit Friday September 21, 2007 from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Cartwright Funeral Home in Winchester, Virginia. The family will receive friends one hour before service at the Church.
Burial will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park in Winchester with Military Honors afforded by the United States Marine and the Winchester VFW Post # 2123.
