William Walter Buckner

William W. Buckner peacefully departed this life, at 94 years of age on December 6, 2025, while hospitalized in Hagerstown, Md.

He was born on May 3, 1931, in Pittsburgh, Pa. to the late William Buckner and Myrtle Buckner.

Bill Buckner was the youngest of his eight siblings, 6 sisters (Ruth, Margaret, Leah, Nan, Sara and Elaine) and 2 brothers (Leonard and Dave).

He was a graduate of Shenley High School in Pittsburgh, where he played guard on the football team, and was awarded a scholarship to play football at Southern University in Baton Rouge, La. He served as an electrician and HVAC technician in the U.S. Air Force in Japan during the Korean War. He was a decorated military veteran, earning the Korean Service Medal, U. N. Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and National Defense Service Medal.

In 1954, he returned to Pittsburgh following military service and worked at Western Electric while finishing college at the University of Pittsburgh. Upon moving to Winchester, he worked briefly as a surveyor and studied to prepare for his licenses for HVAC and Electrician certification. He retired from working for the Internal Revenue Service, U.S. Government as Chief Operations Branch B and Collateral Duty EEO Investigator. He was awarded the Masonic achievement of Thirty-Second Degree on September 22, 1977. He engaged in local politics in Winchester for many years. The citizens of Winchester, VA, will remember him for his fun-loving antics and quiet generosity. He enjoyed participating with other veterans selling handmade poppy flowers during the holiday season.

His first wife, Frances and his second wife, Mary, where both prominent Winchester citizens preceeded him in death.

He is survived by a host of family, friends, and his many nieces and nephews, who were immensely proud of their "Uncle Beanie."

Services will be held at Mount Carmel Baptist Church, 1317 S. Pleasant Valley Rd., Winchester, VA., 12:00 pm on Tuesday, December 16, 2025.

Services will be officiated by Pastor Kevin Wilson, of Saint Paul AME.

Viewing will be at 11:00 am with services following at noon.

Interment will be at the Orrick Cemetery in Winchester, Va., following the service.

Military Honors Afforded by the United States Air Force and the Winchester VFW Post 2123.

Repast will be served at Mount Carmel, following internment.
