About Us

Joseph G. Cartwright came to Winchester in 1934 to work with Robert S. Paynter, owner of Paynter's Funeral Home at 20 E. Pall Mall Street in Winchester. Six years later, he bought the business and opened Cartwright Funeral Home in 1940 at its new location at 504 N. Kent Street. Two years later, he moved to 204 N. Kent Street. His final move in 1945 was to 437 North Cameron Street. Joe Cartwright operated from this location until his death in October of 1980.

Through the years, many things have changed in our community, but one thing that hasn't changed is our commitment to the families we serve. Families and friends have counted on us to help them through difficult times, and we have been there by providing a comfortable setting, and helping them in any way we can before, during, and after the funeral. We have been serving the local community for over 60 years, and hope to continue the Cartwright legacy.
